In the past decade, factory owners may be most concerned about: production capacity, raw materials, labor, electricity prices. But in recent years, the word “emissions” has appeared more and more frequently in meeting minutes, rectification notices, and even tickets.
Especially these three English letters: NOx.
- “Isn’t it nitrogen? The most abundant kind in the air?”
- “I didn’t exceed carbon, why is NOx here again?”
- “Our furnace burns quite steadily, why is the emission not up to standard?”
You may have heard these words more than once in the factory. But unfortunately, NOx exceeding the standard is really not a trivial matter. It is not as simple as a leaking faucet. It is an environmental protection ticket that can “break the defense” of the enterprise if you are not careful; it is also an “invisible reform” that is affecting the upgrading of combustion equipment in countless factories.

What is NOx? Why is it so “troublesome”?
NOx, the full name of nitrogen oxides (Nitrogen Oxides), mainly includes NO (nitrogen monoxide) and NO₂ (nitrogen dioxide). They are not unique to chemical plants, but are “by-products” of all combustion processes – as long as you have a boiler, a furnace, an open flame, and as long as you use fuel, NOx will be produced.
The problem is that NOx is very “toxic”:
- It is the culprit of acid rain
- It is the “precursor” of PM2.5
- It also plays chemistry with sunlight to create ozone pollution (you heard it right, ozone is a good thing in the upper layer of the earth, but it is a pollutant near the ground)
Therefore, more and more countries are beginning to strictly control NOx emissions. China, the European Union, and the United States are all lowering emission standards year by year. Enterprises in many regions cannot start work if they cannot meet the standards.

Why has “Low NOx burner” suddenly become a rigid demand?
Low NOx burner (low nitrogen burner) is essentially a device that reduces NOx generation by optimizing combustion methods.
Traditional burners pursue “burning vigorously”, while Low NOx burners focus on “burning steadily, burning evenly, and having good temperature distribution”, suppressing the major conditions for NOx generation (high temperature, high oxygen, and excess air).
Many factory owners did not pay attention to this thing at first, until one day they received a rectification notice: “The NOx emission value of your factory exceeds the emission standard by 120%, and the rectification is required within one month.”
At this time, they began to look through the equipment manuals and find environmental protection technicians, asking: “Can you install Low NOx burners?”
At this time, companies that understood and deployed early have completed the transformation and are producing in compliance; while companies that wait and see are busy cramming.

Is it really forced by policies? Let’s do some calculations
Low nitrogen burners are not a one-time expense for “coping with environmental protection”, they can actually help companies save costs. For example:
A chemical plant consumes about 5 million cubic meters of natural gas per year in gas boilers. The thermal efficiency of traditional burners is 89%. After replacing the Low NOx burner, the thermal efficiency can be increased to 92%. It seems to have only increased by 3%, but:
- Gas saving: 5 million × 3% = 150,000 cubic meters
- At the current average price of natural gas of 3 yuan/cubic meter, 450,000 yuan in fuel costs can be saved in a year
If you consider emission compliance, saved penalty costs (hundreds of thousands of yuan), and long-term green credit, government subsidies and other hidden benefits, this account is even more “attractive”.
The issues that factory owners really care about are actually these:
1. Can I install it under my working conditions? Will it be “unsuitable”?
Different boilers, kilns, ovens, heat treatment furnaces, cracking furnaces, etc. have different temperature, air volume, fuel pressure and control system requirements. Not all Low NOx burners are universal and must be customized.
2. Will it affect production capacity?
A good Low NOx burner not only does not affect production capacity, but also improves thermal efficiency, reduces local overheating in the furnace, and extends the life of the furnace tube.
3. How long will the transformation take to stop production? Will it affect the production rhythm?
This depends on the experience of the equipment manufacturer. We have done many “load transformation” projects, and some equipment can be installed and debugged without stopping production, truly achieving “no delay in production”.

“Burn fast” is no longer the only standard, “burn cleanly” is the future
This technological change caused by NOx emissions is actually quietly changing a core concept: “Combustion” is not only a means of heat generation, but also the source of environmental protection indicators.
Just as industrial production has shifted from “speed-oriented” to “quality-oriented”, today’s combustion equipment is also moving from “high temperature and high efficiency” to “clean and efficient”.
Last words: Early transformation, early peace of mind
You may not be targeted by environmental protection yet; You may have stable working conditions and have used the burner for many years without any problems; But don’t forget that NOx standards are changing every year, supervision is becoming more and more stringent, and competition between companies is also widening the gap in “emissions”. Pre-layout of Low NOx technology is laying the foundation for future sustainable development.
